Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s softball and baseball teams hope to get back on the win-ning track today when they play District 5-3A games at home today against Wylie.
The SHS softball team, which is 10-6 overall but 0-1 in District 5-3A after losing to Big Spring on Friday, will face Wylie at 6:30 p.m. after a JV game at 5. The baseball team â€” which begins district play at 7 p.m. â€” has lost its last two games and seen its season record drop to 6-6-1.
The Mustangs went into spring break 6-4-1 but lost to Andrews, 13-2, this past Monday at home and fell to Wall, 13-4, on the road this past Friday.
Sweetwaterâ€™s JV baseball team was scheduled to open district at Wylie on Monday, but the game was cancelled due to rainy weather. The teams have agreed to play a doubleheader April 7.
The varsity and JV play non-district games here Saturday. The varsity plays Odessa High at noon, with the JV facing Abilene Highâ€™s JV squad immediately after-ward at about 3 p.m.
After todayâ€™s contests, the softball teams will be idle until going to Brownwood on March 27 to resume dis-trict action.
Roscoe athletes place at Hamlin meet
A few Roscoe track ath-letes placed in their events Saturday at Hamlinâ€™s meet.
The Roscoe girls got all of their points from Jacinda Morales, who took third place in the 800 run with a time of 2:34.93.
The boys fared slightly better as three athletes had top-six finishes.
The best individual boys showing for Roscoe came from Jesus Leanos, who competed in the 3,200 run and ran a time of 11:00.19 to place third. Eduardo Gallegos placed fourth in the 400 dash (54.82) and Devon Freeman was fifth in the pole vault (11-6). Both Roscoe teams go to Rotan for a meet this Saturday.
