While most students are enjoying spring break, the Sweetwater High School baseball and softball teams will stay busy this week and both will see action today.
The baseball team entertains Graham at 7 p.m. at Newman Park, while the SHS softball team travels to Lamesa for a noon contest. The Lady Mustangs, who are 7-7 overall, are back at the Jerry Collins Complex on Thursday for their final non-district game against Levelland at 3 p.m. Sweet-water will then travel to Big Spring for its District 5-3A opener at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Sweetwater baseball team is beginning a two-game homestand today. The Mustangs (10-7-1) lost at Andrews 6-5 on Monday but will finish the week by hosting Graham today and entertaining Wall at noon on Friday in their final game before district.
Sweetwater will then play its District 5-3A opener at Wylie next Tuesday. The Mustangs will then host Odessa High in a non-district game to kick off a five-game homestand.
The SHS softball team lost to Post 7-4 on Saturday to finish fourth at a weekend tournament in Post. Sweetwater beat Brownfield on Friday 5-2 and lost to Roby 6-0. Taylor McKoy and Maty Montgomery threw a combined one-hitter against Brownfield and both had two hits, as did Angela Garza, Jerren Villa and Loni Mendez. Villa also had two RBI. Villa and Keyli Turner both had two RBI against Post and McKoy, Turner and Villa had three hits. McKoy also had three hits against Roby.
