SHS teams try to build on success
This past week was by far the best one for both of Sweetwater High School’s varsity basketball teams since district play began.The teams each got their initial 5-3A win by defeating Snyder on Tuesday, then got the district’s bye Friday.Another victory today at Big Spring would not only continue the recent success but also vault the Mustangs (1-3) and Lady Mustangs (1-4) into a third-place tie with Big Spring (whose teams are 2-2 and 2-3). The girls and boys tip off at 6 and 7:30 p.m., respective-ly, with JV and freshman games also on tap.In District 9-A, Division I, the Roscoe girls (3-4) and Roscoe boys (1-5) are on the road to face winless teams at Rotan while in District 11-A, Division II, the Highland girls (8-2) and Highland boys (2-6) entertain Trent. The girls clinched a playoff berth this past Friday.Blackwell, which on Fri-day split its doubleheader at Paint Rock, plays host to Garden City in District 12-A, Division II. The Blackwell girls (3-8) won 41-40 but the boys (0-9) lost 64-30 to Paint Rock in their game this past weekend. Amanda Bullard had 16 points and Stephanie Metcalf eight for the girls, while Jayden Jones had 12 points and Wade Allen nine to pace the boys.
