Sweetwater High School begins its final week of bas-ketball action before the Christmas break by sending its teams to Colorado City, and several area teams will see action today as well.
Sweetwaterâ€™s 5-0 boys are one of two unbeaten teams from Nolan County after edging Bangs 48-47 on Friday. Also unbeaten are the Highlandâ€™s girls, 54-44 winners over Greenwood on Saturday. Sierra Allen and Madison Moseley had 14 points for the 11-0 Lady Hornets, who led 11-8, 26-15 and 41-26 at the breaks and held on for the victory.
Also scoring points for Highland were Beth Richburg (eight), Schyler Kimbrell (seven), Hannah Allen (five), Kaylee Martin (four) and Sydny Helbert (two). Highland is the top-ranked team in Class 1A, D-II. But Highlandâ€™s boys (5-1) fell from the unbeaten ranks, losing to Coleman 67-45 on Saturday. Ethan Wilson and Jacob Richburg (11) shared the high point honors while Michael Hyde finished with 10 points. Also scoring for Highland were Seth Wood with seven points, Brandon Stevens with four and Isaac Rios with two.
The Roscoe boys will take a 1-6 record into todayâ€™s game after reaching the consolation finals of their own tournament which ended Saturday. On Friday, Ros-coe defeated Rotan 46-34, but it then lost to Hawley in Saturdayâ€™s consolation final 52-45. Jesus Leanos scored 24 points vs. Rotan and also had 14 points vs. Hawley, while Javier Leanos had 10 points against Rotan and 13 points against Hawley. Also for Roscoe, Kevin Lavalais had 11 against Hawley and four against Rotan; Cutter Davila had four vs. Rotan and three against Hawley; Anthony Ortegon had two points against Rotan and one point vs. Hawley; Luis Villa had two vs. Rotan and one against Hawley; and Chase Cathey and Dillon Freeman each scored one point against Hawley for the Plowboys.
