SHS tennis
Sweetwater’s tennis team is at Midland for a 1 p.m. match with Monahans after winning its Saturday match 11-8 at Greenwood.
Boys doubles — Key-gan Valdez and Billy Reeves lost 0-8; Chris Shoemaker and Tyler Stacy won 9-7; Marc Butler and Christian Ulbrich lost 5-8.
Mixed doubles — Bry-an Vause and Jenny Medel-lin won 8-0.
Girls doubles — Crys-tal Foust and Teresa Perez-Poe won 8-1; Naomi Gon-zales and Rebecca Gonzales won 8-4; Gisela Selano and Ezzy Mermella won 8-0.
Boys singles — Bryan Vause lost 4-6, 4-6; Keygan Valdez lost 1-6, 1-6; Chris Shoemaker lost 0-6, 6-2, 8-10; Billy Reeves lost 2-6, 3-6; Tyler Stacy lost 1-6, 5-7; Marc Butler lost 3-6, 4-6.
Girls singles — Jenny Medellin won 6-1, 6-2; Teresa Perez-Poe won 6-2, 6-0; Crystal Foust won 7-5, 6-0; Naomi Gonzales won 6-2, 6-3; Gisela Selano won 6-2, 6-4; Rebecca Gonzales won 6-0, 6-0.
MBC golf tourney set
The Mustang Baseball Classic golf tournament will be held Saturday at the Sweetwater Country Club with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. This event is a four-person scramble, and all proceeds will go to support the Sweetwater High School baseball program by enabling the purchase of additional equipment.
There is a fee per team or for individuals not on a team. Prizes to be awarded will be Titleist cart golf bags for first place, Titleist golf balls and caps for second place and Sweetwater Mustang baseball caps for third place. Checks can be sent and made payable to the Sweetwater Mustang baseball program. For entry fees or more information, call Don Timm at (325) 235-8093 or Coach Roland Herrera at (325) 236-1003.
SHS volleyball
All three Sweetwater High School volleyball teams will host Wylie beginning at 5 p.m. today after losing at Monahans in their district openers Saturday.
The varsity (9-16 overall) lost to Monahans 14-25, 14-25, 18-25. “We played okay,” said coach Liz Miller. “We just didn’t have enough offense. But the girls did the best they could do.”
Kayla Chowning had a team-high nine kills and three digs. Shaneese Brown had six kills, two digs and a block; Kensi Chowning had three kills, two digs and one block; and Maddie Berry had two kills and two digs.
Morgan Gomez came up with a team-high 19 digs. Aly Heredia had 12 assists, three digs and one block; Maddie Jones had 10 as-sists and four digs; and Mikki Reschman had three digs and one ace.
The JV team lost 22-25, 18-25. Abby Garcia had six kills, three digs and one block while Lauren Jones had five kills and Katie Fox, Alyssa Soles and Alyssa Villanueva all had two kills.
Sarah Valdez had a team-high 10 assists and Marissa Moncada had a team-high five digs. Jones had three assists and one dig, and Soles also had a dig.
The freshmen lost 17-25, 26-24, 11-25. Brittany Pee-ples had five kills and 11 digs; Davina Walker had three kills and nine digs; Kaitlyn Foster had two kills, six assists and six digs; and Annaliese Espinoza had two kills and seven digs. Natalie Valdez (12), Rhylee Meneses (11) and Destiny Renteria (3) also came up with digs.
