SHS track athletes to advance to area meet

Nine track athletes from Sweetwater High School are going to area competition after top-four finishes at the District 4-3A track meet that wrapped up Thursday in Big Spring.
The SHS boys qualified six athletes in a total of seven events, including two relays, and scored 81 points as a team to place third.
Both Isaiah McGee and Johnathan Browning are going to the area meet in four boys events. McGee, who scored an individual meet-high 26 points, qualified in the long jump, 200 dash and as a member of the 400 and 800 relays, which both had second-place finishes.
McGee won the long jump (21-1 1/4) and was second in the 200 (22.62). Browning (20 points) was third in the 100 dash (11.06) and long jump (20-1 1/4) and also on the two second-place relays which had times of 43.13 and 1:32.21, respectively. Also running on both relays were De’andre Gatson and Marquees Jenkins. The other boys qualifiers were Deshaun Williams, who won the high jump (6-0); and Mark Lawrence, fourth in the 800 (2:05.94). Also, Williams was fifth in the long jump and Lawrence was sixth in the 400.
The SHS girls qualified three athletes in a total of four events. Cierra Knox was fourth in the shot put (30-9 1/2) and discus (100-5); Zanesha Collins was third in the discus (104-4 1/2); and Mickenzie Brownlow qualified in the 400 dash. Also, Abby Garcia was fifth in the high jump (4-10). The area meet will be held on Friday in Pecos.
