Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s track teams went to Snyder to compete at a season-opening meet on Friday.
The SHS girls scored 52 points for a fifth-place finish in their division and were led by senior Jayci Shelton, who won both hurdles and placed in two other events.
Shelton ran the 100 hur-dles in 14.85 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 45.27, while placing fourth in the long jump (15-4 1/2) and running a leg on the Lady Mustangsâ€™ fourth-place mile relay, which had a time of 4:26.82. Suede Shirley, Kendra Crosson and Kinsey Browning also ran on the mile relay. Shirley was third in the 400 (1:03.65) and sixth in the 200 (27.35); Crosson was fifth in both the 200 (27.02) and long jump (15-4); Browning was fifth in the triple jump (32-9); Destiny Osteen was third in the shot put (31-6 1/4) and Alicia Finn was sixth in the discus (95-1). Adrian Lopez was the only boys athlete to place as he was fifth in the 200 dash with a time of 22.72 seconds.
For the JV girls, Morgan Browning was fourth in the 800 and Kayla Chowning was third in the high jump.
Sweetwaterâ€™s JV and varsity athletes compete again at Big Spring this Friday. The middle school athletes begin competing Thursday at Clyde and have three other meets on their sche-dule this season.
