A sign of summer

Cicada shells are usually a sign that summer has arrived and that the insects have burst onto our summer scene in Texas, but rarely does one get the chance to witness the process as it happens. This particular cicada was attached to the side of a Sweetwater home as it molted.
Shown, the cicada is next to its abandoned shell, now split and fully empty. The cicada will eventually adopt different colors once its new body hardens.
Find more photos of the process on Page 1 of today's edition.
