Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Simona Castro, 96, of Abilene, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
A Rosary will be said by Lupe Medellin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Castro died Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Abilene.
She was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Fredricksburg, Texas. She married Cipriano Castro on Jan. 5, 1933 in Sweetwater.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She had lived in Abilene since 1971 and in Nolan County before that. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Joe Castro and wife Anita of Abilene, Tony Castro and wife Lupe of Porter, Richard Castro and wife Wiona of San Angelo and Frank Castro of San Angelo; eight daughters, Maria Vargas of Abilene, Cruz Diaz and husband Louis of Sweetwater, Juanita Ortega of Abilene, Teresa Baldivia and husband Jesse of Sweetwater, Margaret Ybarra of Ft. Worth, Angelina Soto of Sweetwater, Victoria Castro of Abilene and Julie Lopez and husband Mike of Abilene; two sisters, Nora Herrera of Hemit, Calif. and Katherine Furtado of San Diego, Calif.; 39 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cipriano Castro, on Nov. 25, 1972; a son, Pascual Castro, on Oct. 28, 2008; and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Frank Lopez, Alex Ortega, Jr., Ernest Vargas, Jeremy Diaz, Peter Soto, Jr., and Chris Castro.
