STTAR (Sweetwater Texas Theatre Acquisition and Renovation) and the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium board announce an exciting live music performance to be held in the Municipal Auditorium on Saturday evening, Aug. 27. The event, The West Texas Singer-Songwriter Showcase will feature Texas musicians, singers and songwriters, from locally to nationally known, including Lance Richburg of Sweetwater, Tony Barker of Abilene, Brian McRae of Austin, Lesley Sawyer, Andy Wilkinson and Kenny Maines, all of Lubbock and Bob Livingston of Austin.
The event, in addition to being held as a fund-raiser for both the Texas Theatre and the Municipal Auditorium, is being held to raise awareness of Sweetwater’s potential to become a well known, state-wide live music/entertainment center. Many Texas musicians, as well as musicians from across the nation, travel through Sweetwater on their way to performances in larger cities in both Texas and across the Southwest. According to Weston Pyburn, STTAR board member and organizer for the showcase, “Sweetwater and Nolan County are at the crossroads of the route many musicians make across West Texas and the Southwest region of the U.S. The West Texas Singer Songwriter Showcase is an excellent opportunity to put Sweetwater on the map as an entertainment destination, which will benefit our community by generating tourism revenue, as well as provide needed funding for the Texas Theatre and the Municipal Auditorium.”
The Sweetwater Reporter is publishing a special tabloid for this first-time event, which will feature the artists who are performing, information about local and area venues, a directory of individuals and bands available for hire and other information about the live music industry in Sweetwater. If you are a musician, performer or venue interested in being in this directory, please contact the Reporter at 236-6677.
The showcase will begin at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. Tickets are $10 per person available in advance at JavaJax, 325 Oak Street, or can be purchased at the door on the night of the show. All seats are general admission.
