SIS takes four teams to first Lego League Robotics Competition

December 15, 2012

Sweetwater Intermediate School was well represented at the Regional Qualifiers meet in Ft. Worth on Dec. 8. SIS took four teams to the First Lego League Robotics Competition. This is the first year that SIS students have had an opportunity to participate in robotics.
Starting in August, SIS started two robotics classes. One class being an introduction into robotics and the other class being a competitive robotics class. The students met each Wednesday from 3:45-5 p.m. for practice. The competing teams have been practicing heavily the last few months and it paid off. The Senior Savers, Collin Stafford, Austin Moreland, Caleb Reed and Caden vonAtzigen placed eighth in the Robot Challenge. The team advancing to the Championship Tournament next month is the Senior Soldiers, Cooper Hrbacek, Reese Hayes, Rylan Hayes, Tristan Baker, Carson Andrews and Jasen Nelson. The Senior Soldiers advanced in the overall Robotics Competition which consists of Robot Design, Project, Core Values and Robot Challenge.
The Championship Tournament will be held at Hockaday School in Dallas. The theme for this year's competition was Senior Solutions where kids solve real-world problems that Seniors face in aging.
Sweetwater Intermediate School would like to thank Ludlum Measurements for their continued support and sponsorship.
