SNCHD announces free cholesterol screening and flu shot clinics
September is National Cholesterol Education Month and to acknowledge this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Lab will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screening. The health department would like to say thank you to the hospital for their years of service providing free services to the public at the facility.The health department will not have immunization clinic on Wednesday, Sept. 11, due to staff participating in an exercise to dispense medication to public in an emergency. The next immunization clinic will be Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. Parents are asked to bring their child’s immunization record. Children with private health insurance need to be vaccinated by their physician unless private insurance does not pay for vaccines, then the child can be vaccinated at the health department. The health department encourages parents to check with their insurance. There is a $6 administration fee per a child and Medicaid and CHIPS are accepted.The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department will be administering flu vaccine on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 8-11:30 a.m. only; Thursday, Sept. 26, from 1-4:30 p.m. only and Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for all adults. Medicare Part B is accepted. The cost is $6 for children (6 months to 18 years) with no insurance. Medicaid and CHIPS are accepted. If children have private insurance, they will be referred to their physician unless insurance does not pay for vaccine. The health department can vaccinate children for $20 using their private stock vaccine and not state vaccine.The health department will have representatives at the Roscoe Community Center on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 1:30-4 p.m. to administer the flu vaccine, and at Blackwell school cafeteria on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 9-11 a.m.Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, methods of birth control and screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
