Sweetwater Mustang softball/baseball recap

Tuesday’s 9-7 Snyder win over Wylie ended a 16-year playoff drought for Sweet-water’s softball team dating all the way back to the pro-gram’s very first year.
Sweetwater, 4-2 in district, is in second place after an open date Tuesday and has two games left, starting here Friday against Brown-wood (6-0). Sweetwater leads Snyder (4-3) by a half-game. Snyder has also clinched a playoff spot and Brownwood has clinched a tie for its third straight district title. Sweetwater was a playoff team in its very first year of softball as a member of District 5-4A. The team was second to Snyder after losing to Snyder to end the regular season in the teams’ head-to-head showdown. Sweetwater advanced to bi-district against Brownwood where the Lady ‘Stangs lost by a score of 9-6.

Sweetwater’s baseball team lost a 6-0 non-district decision to Ranger Junior College’s JV on Tuesday in a game at Ranger. The team begins a three-game homestand Friday by hosting Brownwood, then entertains Snyder and Big Spring to end the season. Brownwood and Snyder won on Tuesday, so Sweetwater (1-4) may have to win its last three games to have a shot at making the playoffs.
