SPD investigates home invasions
The Sweetwater Police Department on Monday evening responded to the 800 block of Circle Drive regarding a complaint of a home invasion.According to Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda, the victim stated that multiple suspects entered the residence demanding money. The suspects left with an undisclosed amount of money, along with multiple cell phones.The victim was unable to provide physical descriptions of the suspects.The investigation in this case in ongoing.In another case, Chief Frieda states that at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, the Sweetwater Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at the 1700 block of Pease. While en route to the location, officers received a call from Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital stating that an individual in the Emergency Room had been shot. Upon arrival at the hospital, officers made contact with the homeowner on Pease Street, and it was determined that he and his wife were the victims of home invasion. The victim stated that the suspect kicked open the back door to the residence — shattering the door frame — and began demanding cash from the homeowners. During the course of the demands, the suspect continuously threatened to kill one of the homeowners. The homeowner was able to produce a hand gun, as the suspect made multiple attempts to charge at the homeowners. According to police, the homeowner — fearing for his safety and the safety of his wife — fired a shot, striking the suspect's abdominal region. The suspect retreated from the residence and was transported to the hospital by another individual. The suspect received care at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and was then flown by Native Air to Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. The suspect was later identified as Alfonso Arevalo, 31, of Sweetwater.
