SRFCU commended for safety procedures

February 8, 2011

Sweetwater Teacher's Federal Credit Union

Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit Union personnel were commended for their quick thinking and safety procedures in keeping a troubled woman from entering the establishment on Thursday.
According to Sweetwater Chief of Police Jim Kelley, a woman was trying to gain access to the building on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011. The woman was said to have a note, back pack and stun gun knuckles in her possession.
"The personnel at Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit Union took every necessary step to keep the woman out of the building," said Chief Kelley.
The personnel saw a threat, locked the door and called 911. "The woman never gained entry into the building because the personnel did their job so well," said Chief Kelley.
According to Kelley, the note in the woman's possession was hard to follow, but could have been taken as threatening in nature. The SPD obtained mental health services from West Texas Centers for the woman. "The woman just needed help and we hope that she follows through with the necessary assistance that was offered to her."
