Sweetwater boys basketball

BIG SPRING — Ahead 5-0 just 13 seconds into the game, the Sweetwater boys basketball team was unable to hold on for long Tuesday as Big Spring rallied for a convincing 75-46 win.
Sweetwater (0-2 district, 6-16 season) also failed to stop Big Spring’s outstand-ding guard, Luke Adams, who hit eight 3-pointers en route to a 37-point performance at the Steers’ gym. Big Spring, which is ranked No. 24 in Class 3A in this week’s statewide poll, im-proved to 2-0 in district and remained in a tie for the early District 5-3A lead with Abilene Wylie.
Big Spring (18-6 overall) began to turn things around when Adams hit his first two treys within a span of less than two minutes to give the Steers a 6-5 lead, and Big Spring had stretched its lead to 16, 25-9, by the end of the quarter. The hosts were ahead 44-22 by half-time and led 63-36 going into the fourth period.
Sweetwater got double-figure scoring from its out-side-inside combination of 5-9 guard Taylor Jones (14 points) and 6-8 post Paxton Kelley, who had 13 points and gave Sweetwater its early lead by hitting a pair of technical free throws and a 3-pointer. Dylon Adames and Tino Martinez had six points, Kevin Sepeda four and Gabriel Medellin three. Sweetwater is back home to face Brownwood (0-1) this Friday at Mustang Gym.
