Stangs host Cooper today after placing 4th at Wylie tourney

The Sweetwater boys are playing host to Abilene Cooper this evening, three days after wrapping up play at Wylie’s three-day Catcaw Classic tournament where the Mustangs had a fourth-place showing in the Gold Bracket.
Sweetwater (2-8) wound up with a 1-3 record at Wylie. The team went 1-1 in pool play, losing to Fort Worth Chisholm Trail 62-35 and beating Bullard Brook Hill 51-42 on Thursday to reach the tournament’s Gold Bracket.
In Friday’s semifinals, Sweetwater lost to Abilene High 53-29. On Saturday, the Mustangs ended the tournament with 67-43 loss to Monahans. Today’s games with Cooper begin at 4:30 p.m. with the freshman boys game, followed by the JV boys game at 6 and varsity contest at 7:30 p.m.
Highland teams 3rd at Loop tournament
Highland’s teams played at the Loop tournament this past weekend and placed third in their respective divisions.
The Highland boys defeated Whiteface 62-46 in their opener, then lost to Wellman 68-23 before winning 41-20 over Loop for third place. Highland’s girls, meanwhile, beat Cotton Center 31-26, then lost 33-27 to Southcrest. They rebounded for a 54-28 win over Grandfalls-Royalty.
For the boys (5-4), Nolan Montgomery had 16 points vs. Whiteface and Jordan Johns had eight against Wellman and nine against Loop. The girls got 10 from Zoe Cornett vs. Cotton Center, nine from Karlie Allen vs. Southcrest and 15 by Allen and 10 by Maggie Bowen vs. Grandfalls-Royalty. The girls play at New Home, while the boys visit Guthrie when they return to action today.
Blackwell girls 4th at Zephyr tournament
Blackwell’s girls were fourth at the Zephyr tourney last weekend and are 10-6 entering today’s game at Cornerstone.
Blackwell won 78-12 in its opening game vs. Evant but then lost to Zephyr 39-29 and to Cross Plains 56-47. Kiley Cummings had 18 and Jadyn Feitshans 16 vs. Evant; Emilee Sanderson had 12 vs. Zephyr; and Cummings had 20 and Sanderson added 16 against Cross Plains.
Plowboys play four games at their tournament
Roscoe’s boys played four games at a tournament they hosted this past weekend. The team lost to Bronte 69-56 and City View 58-42, beat Big Spring’s JV 64-37 and lost to San Angelo TLC 61-60. Martinez had 18 vs. Bronte; Gray had 15 vs. City View; Lavalais had 14 vs. Big Spring’s JV; and Ortega had 15 and Martinez 14 vs. San Angelo TLC.
The Roscoe girls go to Hawley for their district opener today, while the boys have a non-district game at Trent.
