Statewide average gasoline price increases one cent

December 12, 2011

The current statewide average for gasoline is $3.12.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is one cent more than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.  The current statewide average is $3.12.
The national average is $3.29, showing no change from last week.  The statewide average price is 17 cents less than the national average.  The most expensive gasoline average in the state is in Amarillo at $3.16, two cents less than last week.  El Paso is reporting the least expensive average in the state at $3.01 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
Based on recent reports from the U.S. government, the country is seeing better-than-expected growth in jobs and manufacturing.  Analysts say both are signs of a recovering economy which could potentially pressure prices upward.  However, historically demand for gasoline in winter months typically remains low and could counteract upward pressure on retail prices.
“Motorists in Texas are paying an average of $44 for a typical 14-gallon fill up," said AAA Texas/New Mexico Public Affairs Representative Sarah Schimmer.  “Gas prices in Texas have decreased about 77 cents since reaching the peak price in May of $3.89.”
