Sweetwater has a top-10 state ranking, but isn’t the only area high school football team to remain unbeaten after five games.
Blackwell also takes a 5-0 record into its home game tonight against Veribest and can equal last year’s victory total if the Hornets — who have two games left until the start of District 7-1A, Division II action at the end of this month — can beat Veribest, a Division I squad off to a 4-1 start. Blackwell is a 7-point favorite to win the game according to sixmanfootball.com.
Tonight marks Blackwell’s fourth home game to date. However, Coach Clint Lowry’s team has been just as tough away from Hornet Field. Last week, for example, Blackwell won 40-21 at Moran, which was 3-1, after three straight dominant home wins vs. Brookesmith (54-0), Woodson (66-6) and Rotan (50-26).
