Children's Connections, Inc. offers "The Strengthening Families: An Incredible Years" parenting program in Sweetwater

Sometimes parents may feel overwhelmed with the many demands in their lives while trying to raise children, fulfill their employment requirements and take care of all of their other responsibilities. Children's Connections, Inc. is pleased to announce a new parenting program designed to strengthen families.
The Strengthening Families: An Incredible Years Program is a parent-child training program that is delivered in group settings. The Incredible Years program aims to reduce and prevent behavior problems with children, promote social and emotional competence and increase school readiness. The program offers group classes for parents of children ages 6-12. Free classes are available for parents challenged by child behavior issues, discipline strategies, communication with their child and other obstacles to educational success and healthy child development. During the group sessions, participants will learn how to build positive relationships in their family, handle behavior problems, increase problem solving skills and increase communication skills with their children.
Foster parents, child care workers or teachers who attend the classes may receive continuing education credit. These classes also meet court ordered parenting requirements.
Classes will be offered in different time frames at the following locations in Sweetwater:
Parenting Symposium at the Highland Heights United Methodist Church, 1801 Lamar Street on Friday, April 8 (5:30-9:30 p.m.) and Saturday, April 9 (8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Meals will be provided. Classes for children ages 6 to 8 will also be available.
Parenting classes will be offered on the first and third Wednesday of each month starting April 27, 2011, at the Holiday Inn Express on I-20 in Sweetwater. The classes will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Snacks will be provided. Participants will need to attend two sessions to complete the course.
Other classes can be arranged for groups for 10 or more.
In-home presentations may be made for a minimum of three parents who have children in the age range 6-12.
Presentations can be arranged for local businesses who would like to offer these classes to their employees under President Obama's wellness program. This may entitle the business to receive a reduction in group health care insurance premiums.
Residents of Coke, Fisher, Nolan, Mitchell, Concho and Tom Green counties are eligible for these classes.
