Several third grade students from East Ridge Elementary and fourth and fifth grade students from Sweetwater Intermediate School were treated to a special train ride on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Only 90 students were permitted to ride, as space was limited. The students were drawn for having perfect attendance for the first six weeks. Union Pacific provided the train ride. The purpose of the trip was to educate local officials and school children in Sweetwater about the Operation Lifesaver program, Crossing Accident Reduction Enforcement (CARE), maintaining a safe environment around railroads and general railroad operations. Those riding travelled by train from Sweetwater to Abilene. Shown are students boarding the train in Sweetwater.
