Sub-varsities split

Sweetwater got a split decision in sub-varsity high school football action Thursday in Brownwood.

Sweetwater (3-1) scored in all four quarters in its win over Brownwood’s JV, with five different players finding the end zone.
But quarterback Max Gomez had a hand in three TDs throwing second-half scoring passes of 8 yards to Sean Norman and 43 yards to Michael Green, and scoring on a 22-yard run in the second quarter.
Jacoby Hunt and Adrian Vizzerra had scoring runs of 8 and 4 yards, respectively, for Sweetwater, and also made several big defensive stops.
Other defensive standouts were Norman, Green, D.J. West, Deshaun Wil-liams, Mark Lawrence, Keegan Von Atzigen and Scott Warner. In addition, Dylan Jimenez had some great blocks to spring big runs for Sweetwater.

Sweetwater (3-1) was able to avoid a shutout when Lowell Williams scored on a 55-yard kickoff return in the third quarter following Brownwood’s next-to-last touchdown.
Offensive shutouts for the Ponies were Peyton Hill, Jordan McGee, Javier Olguin, Junior Lawhon and Justin Allen, while Olguin (fumble recovery), Dylan Ausborn, Alex Buchanan and Tyler Rea were standouts defensively.
