Sub-varsity teams get three victories

Sweetwater’s sub-varsity teams captured three wins in high school basketball action Tuesday.
Sweetwater’s junior varsity and freshman girls beat Snyder by scores of 41-38 and 37-25, respectively, in their district openers played at Snyder.
The Sweetwater junior varsity and freshman boys played at San Angelo Lake View in their final non-district outings. The freshman boys won 52-49, but the JV boys lost 52-47.
The freshman boys (9-3) trailed 37-32 until outscor-ing Lake View 20-12 in the fourth quarter to pull out a narrow victory. Duanta Williams and J.P. Poe led Sweetwater with 24 and 12 points, respectively. Martes Harris and Rhett Torres had seven and Bray Amos two.
The JV boys (13-6) led 12-10 after one quarter but trailed 26-20 at halftime and 37-32 after three periods. Marquees Jenkins had a team-high 14 points and Quentin Wetsel 12, while Deandre Gatson had nine, Trey Taylor eight and Brandon Howell and Mike McCoy each scored two.
The freshman girls were ahead 9-4, 16-13 and 27-19 against Snyder on Tuesday at the quarter breaks en route to their win. Zanisha Williams led the Lady Mus-tangs in scoring with 13 points while Bianca Castillo had nine, Lexi Castillo eight and Abby McPherson five.
The JV girls (13-4) trailed 13-10, 20-16 and 29-28 at the breaks before outscoring Snyder 13-9 in the fourth period. Claire Williams paced the victory with 12 points. Taylor McPherson scored eight points, Kayla Chowning seven, Shaneese Brown and Larissa Locklar six and Maddie Jones two.
