Two local churches — Emmanuel Fellowship Church and Lamar Street Baptist Church — got together this year to host a school supply drive for local students in need in Kindergarten through high school. Their goal was to help at least 50 students and their goal was exceeded.
Thanks to the many who donated to the drive, including sponsors — SLJ Embroidery and Gifts, Wal-Mart, Jim Henderson Insurance, Skeet's Texas Grill, Wind Energy Turbine Services (WETS), Emmanuel Fellowship Church and Lamar Street Baptist Church — 70 students in need were helped with school supplies. Most of the supplies were donated to students at East Ridge Elementary, Southeast Elementary and Roscoe Elementary.
