Sweetwaterâ€™s Michael Hunt has a shot at a state tournament medalist berth after an opening 75 Mon-day at the Region I-3A tour-nament in Lubbock.
He trails Andrewsâ€™ G.K. Morrison (71) by four shots at the Shadow Hills Golf Course and is tied for sev-enth place entering todayâ€™s final round. The top three individuals not on one of the top three teams will go to the state meet in Austin as medalists April 28-29, and Hunt would advance to the state meet in his current position.
Andrews Black (296), Lampasas (306) and Llano (309) were sitting at 1-2-3 in the team standings enter-ing todayâ€™s final round â€” the top three go to Austin. The top six medalists Mon-day all played for one of the top three teams. Hunt is tied with Gatesvilleâ€™s Zane Washburn for seventh. Six other golfers, however, are just one shot back and tied for ninth place. Hunt, who is just a sophomore, is in his first regional tournament.
Wylie (320) is fifth in the team standings and Big Spring is tied for sixth (321). Wylieâ€™s Matt Redwine and Devin Roberson of Big Spring are among the six golfers who shot 76s Mon-day to trail Hunt by just one shot in ninth place.
