SW and Big Spring can break ties today
The winner of tonight’s Sweetwater vs. Big Spring basketball games — both of which will be in Big Spring — has a chance to break out of a three-team deadlock for third place in District 4-3A.Tipoff begins at 6:15 p.m. with the girls game, where Sweetwater and Big Spring are both 2-3 in district. And the boys contest between Sweetwater and Big Spring at 7:30 p.m. pits teams that are 1-2 in district play.On the girls side, Sweet-water and Big Spring are tied with Snyder, which plays at Wylie (5-0) tonight.The Sweetwater and Big Spring boys share third with Greenwood, which hosts Monahans (3-0) tonight.Both Sweetwater teams fell to Wylie here last Fri-day, the girls losing 56-26 and the boys falling, 77-43, after leading 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and 19-12 early in the second.Sweetwater’s girls, who defeated Big Spring 44-40 in their district opener here back on Jan. 3, will be tipping off the second half of district play. They will host Greenwood (4-1) on Friday and Monahans (0-5) next Tuesday in their final home games before ending with road games at Snyder and Wylie. The boys also host Greenwood on Friday, then host 4-3A co-leader Mona-hans next Tuesday.The Highland girls, who currently lead Roscoe by a game in District 13-1A with a 5-0 mark, visit Westbrook (2-3) to start the second half of district play. Roscoe goes to Hermleigh (1-4) in the other game tonight.The Roscoe and Highland boys, who are both 2-1, have games at 1-2 Hermleigh and 1-2 Westbrook, respectively. The Plowboys and Hornets both won Friday to stay in a tie for second place, one game behind Ira.The Blackwell girls and boys will have District 14-1A games at Paint Rock. The girls are 2-7 and the boys, who are a game out of third place, are 4-3 in district entering tonight’s games.Bronte is currently third in the boys race at 5-2, with seven games left in district play at the halfway point.
