Sweetwater hosts Merkel in a doubleheader today

Nolan County’s eight area high school varsity basket-ball teams are all at home today when they resume play after participating in weekend tournaments that wrapped up on Saturday at various locations.
Sweetwater hosts Merkel in a doubleheader, starting with the girls game at 6:30 followed by the boys at 8 p.m. JV games will be played in both gyms at 5 p.m., with a freshman boys game at 6:30 and freshman girls game at 8. Also, both Roscoe teams host Baird; Highland’s teams entertain Albany; and the Blackwell girls and boys host Trent.
Blackwell hosted its an-nual Oak Creek Classic that ended Saturday. On the girls side, Roscoe won the title and Blackwell received consolation while for the boys, Blackwell placed fourth.
The state-ranked High-land girls (8-2) were second at Bronte’s three-day tournament, advancing to the finals before falling to Hamlin 44-24. Sierra Allen scored 11 in the title game and 14 in a 41-29 semifinal win over Colorado City. Lora Stewart had 13 points vs. Colorado City and Kara Hughey seven vs. Hamlin.
