Some home cooking, anyone? Both of Sweetwaterâ€™s varsity basketball teams will try for that when they begin a string of four home games out of the next five starting today, when the Lady Mus-tangs and Mustangs will both play host to Snyder.
The varsity girls, who are 2-1 in District 4-3A after a 57-38 win at Monahans on Friday, will host Snyder (0-3) at 6:15 p.m.
The varsity boys, who are 0-1 in district, host Snyder (0-1) in the nightcap which tips off at 7:30 p.m.
Sweetwater hosts Wylie on Friday, then goes to Big Spring on Jan. 21 before both teams return home for games against Greenwood on Jan. 24 and Monahans on Jan. 28.
The Sweetwater boys, 11-1 overall, hope to stay within a game of the 4-3A lead after losing their district opener, 62-40, at Monahans on Friday, which ended a season-long winning streak.
The Sweetwater JV girls were the only winner in sub-varsity basketball action this past Friday as they defeated Monahansâ€™ JV girls, 41-23.
Kensi Chowning had 14 points to pace Sweetwater (1-2) while Marissa Sanchez had nine, Abby Garcia and Alaina Andrews six and Gabby Fuentes five.
But the freshman girls (1-2 district) lost to the Monahans freshman girls, 42-40, in their game on Friday despite getting a 27-point performance by Lauren Jones. Also scoring were Davin Walker with six, Kaitlyn Foster with five and Jennifer Medellin with two.
Meanwhile, the JV and freshman boys both lost in their District 4-3A openers against Monahans.
The JV boys (10-2 over-all) lost 41-29. Hardy Esco-bar scored 13 points while Michael Lawrence had sev-en and Mark Lawrence, Matthew Trevino and Den-zell Moore two.
The freshman boys lost their game 44-31.
Jacoby Hunt led Sweet-water by scoring nine points while Hunter Mobley had eight, Michael Green six, Jordan McGee four, Gar-rett Davison and Luis Vas-quez two and Tate Rainey one. All four teams will host Snyder today.
