SW boys fall
A Sweetwater boys basketball team that has struggled to find a spark in recent weeks was simply no match for San Angelo Lake View here Tuesday. The Chiefs launched two dominating runs — one in each half — en route to an 84-32 victory. The first run turned an 8-7 Lake View edge into a 28-7 advantage midway through the second quarter, and the Chiefs’ lead stayed between 19 and 34 points until a basket by Sweetwater’s Dylon Adames made it 58-30 with 6:09 to play. Then it got real ugly, as Lake View scored 26 of the final 28 points.Senior post Paxton Kelley scored 17 points to pace the short-handed Mustangs (6-14), who started the season 4-1 but have over the past several weeks lost four of their original 11 players for either eligibility reasons or injury. And now Sweetwater has to prepare for the toughest part of its schedule as it begins District 5-3A play Friday, when the team travels to face Wylie. Other than Kelley’s game-high total, no Mustang came close to reaching double figures. Junior guard Taylor Jones had five points, while Adames and Kevin Sepeda had four points and Tino Martinez two. Eight Chiefs scored at least eight points.
