SW boys golf team places 1st at Big Spring

The Sweetwater boys golf team fired a 312 on Friday to tie Wylie for first place and ended up with the title after winning a tiebreaker at Big Spring’s tournament.
Alex Castillo led the way as he shot a 75 to tie for second among medalists, while Mason Andrews tied for ninth with a 77. Dylan Torres shot 79, Ryan Mer-cer 81 and Guy Bond 86. The event was shortened to 18 holes due to weather.
The Sweetwater girls golf team shot a 379 on Friday to place fourth at Big Spring. Snyder (366) won the title with Wylie (374) second and Andrews (375) third.
Elise Lawrence led Sweet-water with a 93 while Rach-el Hunt shot 94, Haylee Stewart 95, Amy Witt 97 and Alex Gomez 98. Also, Molly Fincher shot 100. The girls host their annual tournament Feb. 24-25, and the boys go to Wylie Feb. 24.

S’water tennis team begins spring season
Sweetwater’s tennis team opened its spring season by playing at a tournament in San Angelo on Friday.
In mixed doubles, the duo of Chris Hernandez and Madison Meneses won first place by defeating Snyder’s top mixed doubles team 6-7 (10-7), 6-0 in the finals.
Also, Isaiah Hernandez came away with consolation honors in boys singles while in girls singles, Heidi Taylor won third place. Lake View hosted the tournament.
Sweetwater hosts its tour-nament this week starting with the JV on Thursday. The varsity will play Friday and the middle school plays its tournament Saturday. All matches will be played at the high school courts.
“I am looking forward to a successful spring season,” said Sweetwater tennis coach Shella Arnwine.
