SW can take big step

September 20, 2013

It’s still relatively early in the 2013 season and the start of district action is still three weeks away. But for a Sweetwater team trying to bulld confidence, beating Wall today would be a major boost for the Mustangs.
Wall, which is currently ranked No. 5 in the AP poll in Class 2A, is 3-0 while Class 3A Sweetwater is 2-1 after back-to-back wins against Andrews (39-31) and Breckenridge (51-33) the last two weeks follow-ing a season-opening loss against Eastland.
Sweetwater coach Shane Mobley thinks his team will be better prepared for tonight’s game after losing at Wall 43-20 a year ago.
“Every (game) is huge for us right now,” he said Wednesday. “So we’ve got to step our game up.”
The offense will need another productive outing after scoring 40 points per game so far, but the defense must also slow a Wall attack that is averaging 43.7 points per contest. And the Hawks’ defense has also been quite solid, allowing a total of just 22 points. “They’re probably the best defense we’ve faced so far,” Mobley said.
