The Sweetwater girls golf team shot a 356 total this past Thursday to outpace its nearest competitor at the Lamesa Invitational tourn-ament by 59 strokes.
Merkel came in a distant second with a 415 total, while Kermit (421) was third, Midland Christian (422) fourth and Lamesa (454) fifth. Fourteen schools were entered in the event.
Sweetwater also had four of the top six medalists as Alex Gomez (86) was sec-ond, Elise Lawrence (89) was fourth, Sarah Witt (90) was fifth and Jodie May (91) was sixth. Shanae Ammons of Lubbock Trinity shot 84 to capture medalist honors.
Sweetwater will host the first leg of the District 5-3A tournament on Tuesday at Sweetwater Country Club. The second leg of the 54-hole event will be April 5 at Wylie, while the third and final leg of the tournament will be April 12 at Snyder.
SCC begins scramble
Sweetwater Country Club has begun its Thursday Night Scramble. Persons should sign up by 5:30 p.m. and tee off is at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Per-sons should call 235-8093 for more information.
SW boys place 5th
The Sweetwater boys shot 343 to place fifth out of 14 teams at the Lamesa Invi-tational golf tournament last Wednesday and junior Ryan Mercer (70) was top medalist. Dylan Torres (85), Guy Bond (93), Joey Ada-mes (95) and Jace Bentle (97) were also on the team. Midland Christian shot 315 to win the team title. Sweet-water plays the first leg of the District 5-3A tournament Monday at Brownwood.

boys place at Roby
The Highland junior high boys competed at Robyâ€™s track meet Thursday and two placed in the top six to earn points. Brandon Ste-vens was fourth in the shot put (35-10 1/2) and Shelby Howard was fifth in the discus (104-3). Jacob Richburg was seventh in the 800.
