SW girls hope Wylie isn’t final game

February 4, 2014

Due to UIL realignment, tonight will mark the last time for at least two years that the Sweetwater girls basketball team plays a district game against Wylie.
The Lady Mustangs (4-5 district, 9-13 overall) — who will make the trip to Wylie (9-0, 24-5) for a 6:15 p.m. tipoff — just hope it won’t also be their final game of the season.
That won’t happen should Sweetwater upset Wylie, as it would guarantee a play-off berth. But a loss could create a tie with Big Spring and Snyder or, even worse, eliminate Sweetwater. The three teams will all go into tonight with 4-5 records as they try for the two remaining playoff spots from Dis-strict 4-3A. The two teams who are already in are Wylie and second-place Midland Greenwood (6-3), which is at Big Spring while Snyder goes to Monahans (0-9) tonight for what will be the final games of the 2014-15 regular season.
Tonight at 7:30 is also the last Sweetwater-Wylie boys district game in basketball for awhile. As usual, Wylie (7-0) will be heavily favored to defeat Sweetwater (2-5), which had lost four straight until Friday’s 44-27 win at last-place Snyder (0-7). With four teams ahead of them in the standings, the Mustangs may need to win two of their last three games to have any shot at grabbing a playoff spot in 4-3A.
