SW goes distance in victory vs. Miles

MILES — First there was the travel. Then Sweetwater had to go the distance on the volleyball court before the Lady Mustangs finally beat Miles 3-2 on Tuesday.
And it came down to the wire in both Game 4 and Game 5 before Sweetwater won the match by scores of 14-25, 25-21, 13-25, 27-25 and 15-13.
Freshman Kensi Chown-ing had a team-high 10 kills, plus two digs and one ace, for Sweetwater (9-14), which won’t see action until Sept. 24 when it hosts Levelland in the Lady Mustangs’ final non-district match.
Senior Shaneese Brown contributed seven kills, plus four blocks and three digs for Sweetwater.
But two other seniors shared Player of the Match honors — Kayla Chowning (six kills, 15 digs, two aces); and Aly Heredia (12 digs, three aces, 15 assists, one kill). Maddie Berry had six kills and one dig; Maddie Jones had nine digs, one kill, one ace and 10 assists; Mik-ki Reschman had six digs and an ace; Morgan Gomez had 10 digs; Ziggy Collins had two kills, three digs and two blocks; and Mikealah Foust had two kills, three digs and one block.
