Area district basketball play continues tonight

District 5-3A competition hasn’t been a lot of fun so far for Sweetwater’s basketball teams, as neither the girls or boys has managed to get a win so far. But that could change when both squads host Snyder in a varsity doubleheader today.
The girls (0-4 district, 14-15) face a Snyder team at 6 p.m. just above them in the standings at 1-3, having beat Sweetwater 56-47 in each teams’ 5-3A opener on Jan. 10. Two of Sweetwater’s four losses have been against Wylie and Brownwood, who are ranked No. 1 and No. 6, respectively, in the state in Class 3A this week by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
The boys (0-3 district, 9-17) will host Snyder (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. in a battle of teams who are both winless in 5-3A though Snyder has played one fewer game.
Both Sweetwater teams get a district bye on Friday before returning to action Jan. 31 at Big Spring.
In District 9-A, Division I, the Roscoe girls (2-3) and boys (1-3) are on the road as they go to Munday while in District 11-A, Division II, Highland’s girls (6-2) and boys (2-4) host Ira. In District 12-A, Division II, Blackwell’s girls (2-7) and boys (0-7) host Robert Lee. The girls lost at Bronte 56-10 last Thursday and the boys fell to Bronte 39-18.
