SW teams can help playoff chances by beating Big Spring

October 25, 2013

The Sweetwater volley-ball and football teams will be trying to beat Big Spring and improve their chances of making the playoffs when they face off here today.
The football game matches 1-1 teams who are part of a four-way tie for second place in District 4-3A.
Today’s winner has a leg up on grabbing one of the four playoff spots in 4-3A that will be awarded when the season ends on Nov. 8, while the loser is in a situa-tion where it may need help to reach the postseason. Both teams are trying to end playoff droughts as Sweet-water last went in 2008 and Big Spring in 2009. Wylie and Snyder are also 1-1.
The Sweetwater volleyball team is 3-5 in district and can grab a playoff spot by beating Big Spring (5-3) if Snyder (2-6) also loses to Monahans (6-2) today.
But if both Sweetwater and Snyder win — or lose — today, Sweetwater will have to beat Snyder on Tuesday to make the playoffs. Sweet-water won its earlier match at Snyder this season.
