SW teams host B-Spring as busy week continues for area athletes

Spring has arrived, and the spring sports scene for Nolan County area athletes is really starting to heat up.Not only is Sweetwater hosting Big Spring in varsi-ty baseball and softball to-day, but this week features district golf, track and ten-nis competition as well.The Sweetwater boys golf team played the second 18-hole leg of its 54-hole district tournament Monday at Big Spring, and the girls are at Wylie today for the second 18-hole leg of their 54-hole event. The softball and baseball teams play host to Big Spring at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively, as they continue four-game home-stands that end on Friday.Highland and Blackwell track athletes are traveling to Bronte today for their district meet, while Roscoe is at Hamlin for its district meet on Thursday. The top athletes at district will go to area meets next week.Sweetwater’s tennis team has its district tournament at Big Spring on Thursday and Friday, with hopes of advancing from there to the regional tournament at Lubbock later this month. Sweetwater’s track teams are idle from competition this week while preparing for their district meet at Snyder next Tuesday and Wednesday.In baseball action today, Sweetwater and Big Spring are seeking their first district win while the softball team (2-2) has a chance move into undisputed second place with a victory over Big Spring (1-3). The softball game begins at 5 p.m. while the baseball game will start at 7 p.m.Also having district track meets this week are junior high teams from Sweetwa-ter, Highland, Blackwell and Roscoe as they wrap up their seasons.
