The Sweetwater boys and girls basketball teams make their longest road trip in District 5-3A today when they travel to Brownwood.
Both Sweetwater teams are still looking for their first district wins and are a collective 0-5 after losing a twinbill to Big Spring at home on Tuesday.
The girls end the first half of 5-3A play with today’s 6 p.m. game against Brown-wood (2-1), one of the dis-trict’s two state-ranked teams at No. 7. The boys, who play at 7:30 p.m., will be taking on a Brownwood team that is 6-17 overall but 1-0 in district. Wylie’s No. 1-ranked girls are 4-0 in district and the boys are off to a 2-0 start.
Highland’s girls, who are ranked No. 18 in Class 1A, Division II, and Highland boys will both go to Roby for key games. Highland’s girls (6-1) can tie Roby (7-0) for the district lead, while the boys (2-3) can’t afford many more losses in order to stay in contention.
In District 9-A, Div. I, the 1-3 Roscoe and Stamford girls will also fight to stay in contention while the Roscoe boys face Stamford’s state-ranked (No. 18) boys as well. Blackwell’s girls and boys both played at Bronte on Thursday, but results of their District 12-A, Division II games were not available at press time today.
