Sweetwater batted .500 to begin bracket play Thurs-day at separate District 5 Little League all-star tour-naments being held in the Abilene area. The 11-12 year-olds defeated Jim Ned 15-5, but the 9-10 year-olds lost their game to Jim Ned 13-10 to fall into the losers bracket and need a bounce-back win Saturday in order to avoid elimination.
Sweetwater’s 13-14 year-old Junior League all-stars will begin bracket play to-day. They will be playing Breckenridge at 8 p.m. at Abilene North.
The Junior Leaguers are seeded No. 3 at their tour-nament after winning their two pool games against Jim Ned (20-9) and Abilene North, 6-5, in nine innings.
The 11-12 year-olds will play Abilene Southern at 6 p.m. today at Northern’s field, and play again Satur-day at Northern or Dixie.
The 10-11 year-old all-stars still have three pool games left in their tourna-ment. Sweetwater, which lost to Wylie in its first pool game, will take on Abilene Eastern at 6 p.m. today at Wylie, where all games are being played. Sweetwater will play Abilene Southern at 11 a.m. Saturday, and will then play its final pool game at 8 p.m. Monday against Clyde. Sweetwater may need three wins in order to advance to bracket play.
