SW Wood Bat hurlers show their stuff

The Sweetwater High School varsity baseball team had a 2-0-1 record through Friday at the 2011 Wood Bat Classic tournament held at Newman Park, and pitching was a big reason why. Shown is freshman Kaleb Hoover, who on Thursday threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 7-0 win over Post. The Mustangs also tied Ozona 5-5 on Friday before the game was called due to the tournament time limit. Sweetwater was 6-1-1 going into Saturday’s final day of the event when the team was scheduled to play games against Post, Slaton and Clyde. In Friday’s other games, Wall beat Clyde 6-0 and also knocked off Slaton 13-1; San Angelo Lake View won 9-3 against Post and shut out Clyde 7-0; and Ozona defeated Slaton 6-3. The Mustangs’ 6-1-1 record through Friday’s games represents Sweetwater’s best start to a high school baseball season in several years.
