On Monday evening, Feb. 13, 2012, the Sweetwater ISD Bands will treat the community to a “Coffee House Concert” in the Sweetwater High School Cafeteria. From 6-8:30 p.m., student musicians will perform, as audience members snack on desserts and soft drinks.
For just $5, each listener can fill his plate with desserts! The evening will start with the sixth grade band (at 6 p.m.), followed by the seventh and eighth grade band and jazz band at 6:30 p.m., and finally the high school band at 7:45 p.m.
Music will range from the marches of John Philip Sousa to “Riders on the Storm” by The Doors, to the classic wedding favorite, “Canon” by Pachelbel.
High School Saxophonist Chase Scott will perform “Illuminations” as a featured soloist. All-State clarinetist Crysten Ivy will perform music from the motion picture “Defiance”, as soloist with the high school band. Ensembles will include the high school brass quartet, clarinet quartet and percussion ensemble.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the SISD Band Program. “We hope to have a great turn-out for this come-and-go event,” commented Ross Grant, band director.
