Sweetwater ISD is already making preparations for the next school year, as proposed calendars were presented to the Board of Trustees during their meeting on Monday evening.
With the district's use of Flex Days, one calendar option resulted in classes ending in June since the Flex Days were placed at the end of the school year. The other option, which was amended by the board, included a Labor Day holiday and an early release day the day before Thanksgiving, with the year ending in May.
Recently, a poll conducted within the district showed that many employees preferred to extend the school year through June in order to have monthly holidays.
The board approved to bring the two options before the district, in which the staff will make the final decision. Parents will also have the opportunity to voice their opinion on next year's calendar through their Family Access account on the district website, www.sweetwaterisd.net, in the near future.
Also during the meeting, the 2013-2014 textbook committees were approved. The math committee is made up of Amy Cortez, Amy Nixon, Carolyn Mullican, Stacy Kilgore, Kassidi Seaton, Karla Hayes and Larry Hopple, while the science committee includes Amy Hernandez, Rebecca Kidd, Lise Smith, Holly Rendon, Paula Carmichael, Samantha Webb, Carola Martin and Scott Whittenburg.
Approval was also given to nominate board member Russ Petty to the Nolan County Central Appraisal District (CAD) Board of Directors. One retirement was noted in professional personnel changes, which was approved as well.
A budget amendment for the 2013-2014 fiscal year was additionally approved. Furthermore, approval was given to the consent agenda, which is made up of the minutes of Oct. 21 meeting, investment statement, and delinquent tax lot bids, along with the October 2013 financial statement and bills.
