Sweetwater music series kicks off July 11 with Hope Shiver

New concert series to bring amazing concerts with memorable themes to Nolan County

The Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium, with partial funding from the Texas Commission on the Arts, announced the “Applause” Music Series, which kicks off with a summer preview of the series on July 11, with “Voices of Hope,” staring International performer, Hope Shiver.
Designed to bring a new level of musical arts to Nolan County, the “Applause” Music Series will feature incredible performances with memorable themes.
With “Voices of Hope,” Shiver will take the audience down a journey with portrayals of famous heroines Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth and Sissieretta Jones.
“Nolan County is in for a real treat,” explained Mila Gibson, director of “Applause” Music Series. “Mrs. Shiver is the epitome of musical depth and I know the entire community will enjoy the journey on which they will embark during her performance in July.”
Having performed across the world, Shiver’s work includes opera, solo recitals, oratorio works and the title performance of her Sweetwater debut, “Voices of Hope.”
Shiver, a native of Mobile, Ala., is known for her work in commercials, films and solo performances with esteemed organizations across the nation, including many in Texas such as with the Houston Grand Opera and the Galveston Symphony. She is also a former Miss Alabama and Miss Congeniality with the Miss International Beauty Pageant.
According to Gibson, “Voices of Hope” will preview the five concerts throughout the next year. The schedule begins this fall and includes Broadway Lights along with a concert that will feature Texas Artists then Light Crust Doughboys. A Christmas musical will round out 2014 Lift Every Voice in February 2015 closing the season with Musica Latina in April /May 2015.
“Voices of Hope” staring Hope Shiver will take place at 7:30 p.m. on July 11, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium (400 Locust Street). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or in advanced by calling the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce at 325-235-5488.
