Sweetwater police officer in satisfactory condition after motorcycle wreck

August 28, 2013

Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda has confirmed that one of their officers was injured last week in an accident.
Officer Kurt Huckabee was injured last Friday evening when he lost control of his motorcycle while returning from the White Buffalo Bikefest in Snyder.
Huckabee was off duty and riding his own motorcycle with a group of bikers when apparently he hit a wet spot in the road, causing loss of control. He was flown by Native Air to University Medical Center in Lubbock where he is currently in satisfactory condition.
Chief Frieda reports that Huckabee suffered some broken ribs and as of Tuesday afternoon, the Sweetwater police officer is up and walking.
Huckabee is active with the group BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse).
This is the second Sweetwater emergency services worker to be injured in a motorcycle crash recently.
Paramedic Nick Barton was critically injured about two weeks ago in a motorcycle accident.
Barton is now in satisfactory condition at University Medical Center.
A benefit account has been set up at Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit Union, located at 1900 Preston Road in Sweetwater, for Barton. All proceeds will go towards medical expenses.
