Tenaska, Inc., developer of the proposed Tenaska Trailblazer Energy Center near Sweetwater, presented a $3,000 donation to Nolan County United Way.
"Tenaska is honored to have become a part of the Sweetwater and Nolan County communities," Lloyd Harris, Tenaska community representative said, in presenting the check to members of the Nolan County United Way's Board of Directors.
"As in all the locations — in Texas and nationwide — where Tenaska has generating facilities, we take pride in being a contributing and supportive member of the community," Harris said.
Wendy Smartt, NCUW's executive director, said the Tenaska donation is one of the largest the 2011 United Way campaign has received.
"This is a wonderful contribution toward helping us meet our goal of $85,000 and on behalf of the nine agencies supported by United Way, we are very grateful."
Tenaska, an employee-owned energy company based in Omaha, Neb., and with offices in Arlington, Texas, plans to rebuild the Trailblazer Energy Center about nine miles east of Sweetwater. If built, the 600-megawatt power plant would provide 1,500 jobs at peak construction and bring more than 100 permanent full-time jobs.
Agencies supported by the Nolan County United Way are the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, West Texas Child Advocacy Center, Women's Resource Center, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Red Cross, Backpack Buddies and SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program).

And how much did you donate? At least they are doing something to better our community! Luckily I will be moving soon and won't have to watch Sweetwater circle the drain like all of these other West Texas towns. Tenaska is your only hope....
