TFU President Wes Sims: ‘Ryan Budget unfair to rural America’

Texas Farmers Union (TFU) President Wes Sims stated that the budget proposal recently released by the leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-WI is unfair and would be very harmful to the economy of rural Texas.
"Our farmers, ranchers and rural communities have already suffered a disproportionate share of cuts from the farm bill extension and sequester. It will also turn the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) into block grants for states," said Sims.
Their fiscal year 2014 budget proposal would cut $31 billion from the farm programs. The depth of the cuts to SNAP are similar to last year's House budget proposal which totaled $134 billion.
These projected cuts to farm bill programs are many times larger than proportionate and will likely make it impossible to pass a fiver year farm bill.
Texas Farmers Union has been working since 1902 to protect and enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for family farmers, ranchers and rural communities through advocating grass roots driven policy positions adopted by its membership.
