Three area teams fighting for berths

February 4, 2014

Three area boys basket-ball teams — Highland and Roscoe in District 13-1A and Blackwell in District 14-1A — are still trying to nail down a spot in the playoffs with only three games left.
Highland (5-2), which is in second place in 13-1A, will sew up a playoff berth with a win over Hermleigh (3-4) today and Roscoe (4-3) assures itself of a tie for the No. 3 spot by beating Loraine (0-7) — assuming Highland also wins today.
Blackwell (7-4) is tied for third place in District 14-1A with Bronte, but must take on Water Valley (10-0) to-day and Garden City (8-2) next Tuesday. The Hornets lost to Bronte 51-36 on Fri-day. Robert Lee (5-5) is also in the running for the No. 3 berth, as Water Valley and Garden City have locked up the top two spots.
