Three local teams face tough challenges today

November 1, 2013

The three Nolan County high school football teams who are in action today all face tall assignments as they fight for a playoff berth.
Sweetwater (1-2), which is currently tied for fourth place in District 4-3A, goes to Monahans (3-0), which is the district’s only remaining undefeated team.
Sweetwater’s only win was at Greenwood (0-3), where the Mustangs won 54-29 before losing to Big Spring 65-42 last Friday.
The Mustangs could be in a tie for second if they beat Monahans today while Big Spring (2-1) loses to Green-wood and Wylie (2-1) falls to Snyder (1-2), while a loss by either Wylie or Big Spring coupled with a Sweetwater win would put the Mus-tangs in third place.
Roscoe (3-2) also hopes to keep its playoff hopes alive today. The 3-2 Plow-boys, tied with Cross Plains and Roby for third place, host Hamlin (5-0) today.
The Pied Pipers are tied with state-ranked Albany for the District 7-1A lead.
Blackwell (6-1) can win a district championship by beating Robert Lee today at Blackwell. They are the only teams playing after Lohn and Panther Creek decided to cancel their district schedules due to a lack of players, and this will be the only district game.
Blackwell will be facing a Robert Lee team that is 4-3 overall and is the defending district champion. Today’s game will decide seeding, with the winner taking the No. 1 spot and the loser also going to the playoffs as the No. 2 district team.
