Three SHS girls compete at Tech indoor track meet

February 26, 2011

Three members of the Sweetwater High School girls track team began their 2011 season by competing recently at an indoor invitational meet at Texas Tech University.
Jayci Shelton started out her senior year with a bang by collecting two medals at the meet. Shelton won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds in a field of 52 girls. Shelton also placed third — out of 150 competitors — in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.57.
Also competing for the SHS girls team were Alex Reyes and Sage Nelson. Reyes competed in the 800 meters and set a good goal time for herself, according to SHS coach Jessica Withrow, while Nelson threw for the first time in the shot put and also performed well, Withow said.
All three of the girls and the rest of the SHS track team will continue their season this Friday when they compete at Snyder’s Canyon Reef Relays.
