Three SISD schools receive distinguished title

April 8, 2011

Three SISD schools (East Ridge Elementary, Southeast Elementary, and Sweetwater Intermediate) have been named National Title I Distinguished Performance Schools

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has recently announced that three schools in the SISD — East Ridge Elementary, Southeast Elementary, and Sweetwater Intermediate — have been named National Title I Distinguished Performance Schools.
This prestigious honor is awarded for outstanding academic performance and the schools will take part in a recognition ceremony for their high accomplishments this spring.
In a letter given to the school district by the Associate Commissioner of School Improvement and Support of the TEA, Ann Smisko, Ph. D., she stated, "To achieve and maintain such high standards is an accomplishment that serves as a model for other schools in the state to emulate."
To be selected in this elite group of 1,046 performance schools, certain requirements must be met. The campus must have been a Title 1, Part A Campus in the school years of 2008-09, 2009-10, and 2010-11.
Also in the 2010-11 school year, the school must have a percentage of at least 40% of low income students. The stipulation of meeting the Adequate Yearly Progress must have been achieved in 2009 and 2010 as well.
Furthermore, the school must have met certain criteria in the past few years. The campus must have been named either Exemplary or Recognized in both Spring of 2008 and 2009, and be named Exemplary in Spring 2010.
The three Sweetwater campuses selected are among only twenty schools from sixteen school districts that were named in Region 14.
